Legacy Retirement Communites presents
the
Choral Arts Society of Utah Fall Concert

"Some of that Old Time Religion"

Saturday, October 15, 2011
8:00 pm

This year’s Fall Concert – Some of that old time religion, featuring the Choral Arts Society of Utah promises to be an evening of music that will take you through the early days of church music In America, from spirituals, to songs of prayer and worship.  Conducting this concert, associate conductor Pastor Michael J. Imperiale, pastor of Salt Lake City’s First Presbyterian Church where the concert is being held.  The evening’s program includes such favorites as; How Great Thou Art, and When I survey the Wondrous Cross.  We will also explore the music of Williams Billings. The 18th Century composer is widely regarded as the father of American choral music. Originally a tanner by trade, and lacking formal training in music, Billings created what is now recognized as a uniquely American style. The Diverse styles in American religious choral music are quite amazing. Other composers, Moses Hogan, Natalie Sleeth, Randall Thompson and Houston Bright will be featured in the concert.  Bring your singing voice; the audience will be invited to participate in a sing-a-long.

Michael Imperiale came to FPC as senior pastor in 2001. A native of New Jersey, Mike served as pastor for Covenant Presbyterian Church in Cinnaminson, New Jersey from 1989 - 2001. Prior to that, he served for 5 years as Associate Pastor for First Presbyterian Church in Greenlawn, Long Island, New York. He has a Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA. Pastor Mike is passionate about helping FPC to grow in ministry and outreach to others and to share the love of Christ both within and outside the church.  Mike is also an accomplished musician with a Bachelor of Music from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ.

Members of the Choral Arts Society of Utah volunteer their time and talents to provide quality performances, many of which benefit schools and organizations providing humanitarian services to the local area. We wish to thank the Legacy Retirement Communities, our major sponsor for this event.  This is a “Free” concert, no tickets required.
